AUTUMN LOVE (Winter Death)

I met my love at winter's dawn,
and let his passion
come upon my peace,
my comfort was his out of reach,
a begged lesson was to teach,

Enticed, obsessed o'er my new friend,
possession did fear's will intend
I knew too soon
It would be end.
The moon, to truth,
it's light did lend,

Now sit I, lone,
with only thought,
of what did not,
but that should ought
have come to pleasure,
ne'er forgot,
by winter,
love's swift death was brought.
